Frequently Asked Questions

FAQ

  • Do I need to use septic additives to preserve my septic system?

In most cases, additives are not necessary. If your system is properly maintained and regularly cleaned thoroughly, additives aren't needed. Some additives can be harmful to your septic system.

  • What is the difference between septic tank pumping and cleaning?

Septic tank pumping removes the liquid and some of the floating or settled solids from the tank. Septic tank cleaning goes a step further by removing all of the liquid and compacted sludge from the bottom of the tank. Oftentimes, we also rinse the tank with water to ensure it is thoroughly cleaned. When you schedule a pumping with us, you can expect a complete cleaning. We go above and beyond standard pumping.

  • Can I use a garbage disposal with a septic system?

Yes, you can use a garbage disposal with a septic system. It does increase the solids in your tank. We recommend making sure you have a larger tank, or you may need to have your tank pumped more regularly.

  • What should I avoid putting down my toilets and drains?

You should avoid greases, oils, excessive food, harsh chemicals, and non-biodegradable ideas such as wipes (even flushable wipes should not be used), feminine products, and paper towels.

  • How do I know when my septic tank is full?

Your septic tank may be full if you have slow drains, gurgling pipes, sewage odors, or water pooling in your yard. This can lead to bigger problems, that is why we recommend having your tank serviced every 2-5 years to avoid these issues.

  • How often should a septic tank be pumped?

Usually every 2-3 years, depending on how many people live in your home.
